This weekend’s road trip to NYC, my former home, was a success! I had the chance to spend time with my amazing friends (one that traveled all the way from Hong Kong) and shop at some of my favorite stores in SoHo.
What were my shopping purchases? I managed to pick up a beautiful Alexis Bittar ring (drooool…have you seen the entire Miss Havisham collection??). Each of his pieces are a work of art. I also spent some time at the quirky Kate Spade store where I finally broke down and bought a bracelet I’ve been dying for.
As much fun as I had, it was exciting to return to my new home, Washington, D.C. I’m looking forward to continuing to explore the city and making new memories (and new wardrobe purchases). More to come on that!
I have this cute polka dot top from J.Crew from about two years ago. I couldn’t bear to part with it, so I decided to go shopping in my own closet to see what outfit I could come up with using the top. Here is the end result. What do you think? Don’t forget, sometimes the best finds are already in your own closet.
This morning, I’m jumping on a bus headed to NYC. I’ve got my MacBook, box set of The Wire (can’t believe I’m just getting to this now!), a cozy scarf and my large Dunkin’ Donuts coffee (I’m on a first name basis with my local store).
Here’s a few things I suggest wearing (and bringing) on a little road trip! To me, comfort is the key.
This image from Miu Miu's Autum/Winter 2011 campaign, shot by Bruce Weber, has me dreaming of sparkles. I want to surround myself with every pair of shoes from this collection in every single color available.
They’re simple, sparkly, stunning and of course, expensive. Last week, I stumbled on a few pairs of shoes that are similar (and not as expensive). Alas, we can all have the dazzling Miu Miu look.
Once in a while you happen upon an accessory that you MUST plan an entire outfit around. My once in a while happened last week when I was running around looking for black tights.
I ran into Forever21, and there on the table was this gorgeous bracelet that made me stop in my tracks.
Of course, I bought it (the grand total was $8) and immediately began to think about all the amazing frocks I would wear it with! I’ve pulled together a look using all black pieces, so that the bracelet remains the center of attention. See below. What do you think?
If you’ve ever tried on any piece of clothing from Helmut Lang you know exactly what I’m about to say. The clothing is clingy in all the right places and the draping (oh the draping!) makes the pieces sleek and chic.
I was thinking about how much I love the Helmut dresses I own. This made me go back and take a closer look at his collection for Spring 2012. I already have a running list of frocks I want! See my choices below. Do you love Helmut as much as I do?
The color green represents many different things to different cultures and time periods. To me it means classy, chic and Gucci Fall 2011.
Green has been my favorite color for as long as I can remember. I’m so excited to see it pop up in many of the fall collections. Here is a look at a few amazing green frocks and baubles I’m pining over.
My parents introduced me to the art of Andy Warhol at a very young age. We visited the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh for one of his exhibits many years ago. After the tour, my sister and I were able to create silk screen paintings just as Warhol did (obvi not as good as his creations).
I’ve been fascinated with his style ever since that day. So, of course, I made my way to the Andy Warhol: Shadows exhibit at the Hirshhorn this past weekend.
The colors and they way in which the body of work is displayed is breathtaking. As I observed each of the 102 pieces I couldn’t help but think…how do I get a dress in that color?
All of a sudden I was inspired to run home and pull together some fabulous frocks representing the colors from the Andy Warhol: Shadows palette.
It’s no secret that I have a small obsession with J.Crew. I probably spend more hours in their store than in my apartment. They are my go-to for many of my staples and accessories.
I’ve enjoyed seeing the brand flourish over the last few years. I love that their creative director, Jenna Lyons, has a voice and connects directly with consumers via “Jenna’s Picks.” She has shown us impeccable layering, belts as bracelets, insane jewelry and given us permission to be bold with color.
I fell in love with her style when she dressed Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie many years ago (you know you did, too). I never miss an episode of her show and watch it on repeat on DVR. I fell even more in love when I laid eyes on her Fall 2011 collection. And now she’s outdone herself with her collection for Spring 2012.
It’s only fall and all I want to do is go shopping for warm weather! Here is a look at my faves from the Rachel Zoe’s Spring 2012 collection. Take notice of the fantastic jackets!
Make yourself a mood board before you go crazy with all the winter wardrobe shopping, especially if you’re a fashion magazine junkie like me.
Take all those torn pages you’ve got stuffed in a binder (secretly organized by accessories, designers, looks you like, etc.) and glue them on a sheet of plain paper or poster board (if you really want to get serious).
Doing this has not only helped me focus on developing my personal style, but it has saved me a lot of time and money. That’s right girls, no more shirts sitting in the back of the closet with the tags still on!
Now that it’s fall, I can’t wait to introduce these numbers back into my wardrobe. Ever since I laid my eyes on the Jeffrey Campbell Lita booties I couldn’t stop thinking about them. It took me about three days to give in and purchase a pair before they were completely sold out.
The Lita comes in a million different colors and I want them all! They’re surprisingly comfortable and look great paired with black leggings!
Today I went shopping for the soul purpose of purchasing one particular leopard sweater from J.Crew (pictured below). Imagine my disappointment when I found out the only one remaining at the store was not my size.
Of course, I’m resourceful so I was able to track down one that fits. Here’s how I’ll be wearing my prized sweater this winter. What do you think of leopard print frocks?
I just moved back to DC from NYC, so I didn’t have the pleasure of sneaking into Fashion Week this year. BUT you better believe I’ve watched all the streaming video from the shows. I couldn’t believe my eyes. There were so, so many outstanding collections!
DVF, Jason Wu, J. Crew, Jenny Packham and Rachel Zoe stand out among my faves. What are yours?
Heck yeah! There is nothing I love more than to sass up a winter wardrobe with a little lace (check!) and sequins (yes please!).
Recently, I was flipping through the pages of my Vogue September issue only to reveal Dolce & Gabanna’s fall 2011 campaign. GASP! A stunning two-page ad introducing lace and sequined dresses, pants and blazers. They really know how to bling themselves out!
Of course, I immediately started to think about what pieces I want for my winter wardrobe. Here are a few that are on my “to buy” list. What sequin and lace frocks will you be wearing this season?
I once bought a scarf from the Missoni store in Rome (ON SALE!!) and sadly left it behind at a Heartland Brewery in NYC years later (tears ensued). So, upon perusing the Missoni for Target lookbook, I immediately blocked off September 13th (TOMORROW!) on my calendar. This is the day Missoni invades Target with over 400 items, from housewares to clothing (really fun frocks) to stationery.
Check it out. Do you think their frocks are as amazing as I do? And don’t forget to feast your eyes on the shoes! Oh the shoes!!!
We’ve been experiencing five days of non-stop rain in the DC area, and there is no end in sight. Ladies, I hope you have a good pair of rain boots! If you don’t, I suggest you drop everything and go purchase yourself a pair of Hunter wellies immediately!
These boots are the best money I’ve ever spent! They not only keep your feet dry, they’re also super cute paired with any of your fabulous frocks. We don’t want to sacrifice looking good in bad weather now do we?
Do you remember the first time you fell in love with fashion? My crush began at my local library in 1991. My dad would take me there on Saturday afternoons. I’d sneak off to the back where all the old issues of Vogue, Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar were stored.
Hours were spent flipping through the tattered pages, absorbing names of designers and models. I think it’s safe to say I was the only 12 year old in a town of 8,000 people who knew who Coco Chanel was. I obsessed over YSL’s Mondrian dress and once wrote Chanel to see if they would let me shadow Karl Lagerfeld for a day (to which I received a kind response of NO wrapped up in Chanel No. 5 samples).
So, many years and FIT styling classes later, I’ve decided to start a blog to share with you my personal style and all the fashionable frocks I’m drooling over! You’ll see I’m huge fan of simple wardrobe choices stacked with accessories that make a big statement. Here are just a few of my favorite things. What are yours?
